In this piece, I speak of what life is like where the government has total control over what is said and done, and how the people reacted. The particular group of people that I am speaking ofare the citizens of Egypt. These people were able to recognize and stand up for those rights that we choose to take for granted everyday of our lives.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary> I’ve never really understood the whole “censorship” debate. The First Amendment says that we, as Americans, have freedom of speech. Why then are certain words, phrases, or images blocked from our view or television, radio, or in this case books?

Banned books goes back to the 1970s. Parents were upset over the kind of language that their children were being exposed to in some of the books they were reading in school. That set off a 30 year long, and continuous debate.

This piece reflects my view of banned books, and also shares a first-hand experience of someone, for which this topic hits a little closer to home.</itunes:summary>

Carmel happens to be the largest high school in the state, but that is not the reason for its success. Is Carmel the most diverse city in the world? No, of course not. But it’s not the worst. It’s not even the worst in Hamilton County. There are wealthy people that live in Carmel. Blondes live in Carmel. I’m pretty sure snobby people live in Carmel too. <itunes:summary> College, it’s one word that stands for many things; the gateway to a successful life, the best part of school, and even a big expense that is causing a lot of debt. In It’s Not Looking Good Paul Schiffman uses his own experience to tell the story of the college debt that thousands of students are getting from cost of college. Schiffman breaks down the total cost of college and compares it to factors, like the average salary for a college student and the percent of students in debt, to come to the scary conclusion that if something isn’t done about the cost of college. We will be seeing an era of students moving back in with their parents.</itunes:summary>

The Staff of WHJE have come to know the Saltcast (now known as How Sound) very well as we used to listen to a story from it at the beginning of every class period. How Sound reveals "The Backstory to Great Radio Storytelling" by selecting a different piece each month to feature. They then uncover the rigorous "behind the scenes" work that went into producing the piece. As we listened to these pieces each class, none of us ever dreamed that one day we would be listening to our own piece being featured on the podcast; but that's what ended up happening. Ian Kathan's piece "Different, Not Disabled" that he produced in 2010 was chosen to be featured on How Sound and the podcast was released this month.
So check out the complete post on How Sound's site here, or listen to it below. You can also see the original WHJE post of his story here.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>My first Audio Blog centers on my life with music. Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do in the whole entire world. The only thing I love more than music, is Playing music. Playing music for me is a tool I use to get out emotions. There’s is nothing you can’t express with an instrument. From happy emotions to sad to even depressed, playing and listening to music is my best medicine. It is my passion. But, there is a catch. With junior year in front of me, I am in fear for my musical life. I’m afraid that if I don’t try hard enough my passion for listening and playing music will be taken away from me by the pressures of school.</itunes:summary>
